SEZ Receives First Order from Advanced Micro Devices

Villach, Austria --June 27, 2001--The SEZ Group (Swiss: SEZN) announced that it has received its first order from Advanced Micro Devices' (NYSE: AMD) Fab 25 in Austin, Texas.

AMD will use the 4200, a high-throughput four-chamber tool for frontside applications, for post ash residue removal on aluminum vias and metal lines. This will be the first SEZ tool installed at AMD. The tool has been delivered and is currently in pre-production qualification.

"The implementation of this inorganic chemistry in the Spin-Processor 4200 was preceded by extensive evaluation on the part of AMD,'' explained Jim Mello, vice president of operations for SEZ America, Inc. "By incorporating cutting-edge technologies into its processes, SEZ gives its customers 'tailored solutions' to address critical process requirements.''

The inorganic removal chemistry, jointly developed by Kanto and SEZ, performs at room temperature and requires no intermediate IPA rinse, raising the tool's throughput. The chemicals used are currently found in all fabs and are completely inorganic. The implementation of this chemistry allows SEZ to offer its customers a complete solution for polymer removal that reduces cost of ownership and is more environmentally friendly than conventional solutions. It can also be disposed of in conventional acid waste systems, reducing disposal costs.
