SEZ Opens First Korean Office
VILLACH, Austria, December 4, 2000 -- The SEZ Group (Swiss: SEZN) announced that it has established a Korean direct field sales and service support office in Seoul, South Korea. SEZ has operated in Korea since 1995 through Hantech, its local representative, and will continue this cooperation to support its new direct operations in Korea.
Operating as part of SEZ's Asia-Pacific business unit, SEZ Korea will support the company's growing client base in the country. The office will concentrate on sales, process development and field support for local customers, a key part of any growth strategy in this region.
"Korean IC manufacturers are developing logic IP and the fabrication processes to support them. SEZ's single wafer Spin-Processors are the leaders in this product area," explained Herwig Petschnig, chief operational officer for the SEZ Group. "Our goal will be to strengthen SEZ's position in this growing market and triple its installed base during the next year."
The company plans to have ten full time employees at SEZ Korea by the beginning of 2001. This is SEZ's first office in Korea and third in Asia. Earlier this year SEZ opened direct Group companies in Japan and Singapore and the company has a local representative in Taiwan.
"SEZ will have installed five eight-inch systems in Korea by the end of 2000, and expects this number to triple by the end of 2001. By providing support for our Asian customers, we are creating a basis for growth in a market that is set to expand," remarked Ryan D. Jung, general manager of SEZ Korea. Jung joined SEZ in July of this year and has previous industry experience with ABB Turbo Systems, ABB Korea and ESEC.
The local team is also strongly supported by senior engineers based in Austria. Including Korea, SEZ now has approximately 90 customer service and support staff employed worldwide. SEZ Korea will support a number of SEZ tools, including the Spin-Processor models 201, 203 and 304 for 8 to 12 inch wafer surface preparation applications. All tools are manufactured in SEZ's ISO 14001 and 9001-compliant facility.
