New President and COO for SEZ Japan
JAPAN, June 3, 2002 - The SEZ Group announced appointment of Dr. Masaaki Yashiro, former vice president of TEL (Tokyo Electron Ltd), to president and chief operating officer of SEZ Japan Inc. In this position, Dr Yashiro will work to gain market share in the overall wet wafer processing market, especially in growing cleaning and polymer removing applications, and propel customer process development to be accepted as vendor of choice in the Japanese market.
"Dr. Yashiro's cross culture management skills, in addition to his technological expertise, will contribute to the further growth of SEZ Japan and the company as a whole," commented the Group's executive vice president and chief operational officer Herwig Petschnig. "His vast experience in this market gives us the capability to fully support chipmakers in Japan, especially as the industry adopts 300 mm technology and our market share grows in this key region."
Approximately 20 percent of all capital equipment spending comes from Japan's domestic market, which includes three of the top ten IDMs globally. The company currently has 140 systems installed in Japan, servicing 150 mm, 200 mm and 300 mm platforms. Its client base in the region includes the country's top ten IC manufacturers.
Before joining SEZ, Dr. Yashiro managed the process integration center at TEL, helping customers smoothen their transition to 300 mm by conducting modular process integrations. Before joining TEL, he worked for 17 years in various management positions at Texas Instruments, mainly in DRAM (256Kb to 1Gb density) production. His past experience includes a wider scope of development, productization, technology fan out and volume production phases for companies in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy and the US. He holds a PhD from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan.
